EXECUTIVE SERIES: ADVANCED LEADERSHIP SEMINARS
I.
The Executive Seminar
This
values-based leadership development series focuses on how our
ideas and values are shaped and their broader application to
the leader's role in society. Leaders explore the
historical and philosophical roots of current community
issues. It uses classic and contemporary readings to explore
the central concepts of democratic capitalism: Liberty,
Equality, Efficiency and Community. Intensive roundtable
discussions introduce a time-tested, values-based approach to
developing executive judgment and leadership characteristics
such as vision and integrity.
Shaping
the 21st Century Organization: As a follow-on to
the Executive Seminar, this program focuses on practical
applications of values-based leadership to the most
fundamental challenges facing community organizations in the
near future. Foremost among these challenges is the need to
create a new concept of the organization in which strategy,
structure and governance are suited to the emerging,
competitive global environment.
II.
The Young Executive Seminar
Each
day the program follows a similar structure, with four
seminars focused on the issues of leadership in today's global
environment. Young executives gather for an in-depth dialogue
with CEOs and other senior leaders from some of the largest
and most prestigious organizations.
Leadership
and Career Development -A presentation on the role of
leaders and the values of leadership in a different sector of
the community Higher Education, Secondary Education,
Business, Media, Faith Community, etc. These discussions help
to raise a new sensitivity in attendees, to better prepare
them for dealings in business and other issues in other
cultures. They can also help attendees develop new solutions
to problems and challenges they face in their own careers.
Leadership
Synthesis- Interactive discussion devoted to
individual introspection and group reflection, to help
attendees incorporate and synthesize the concepts they have
encountered.
Executive
Dialogue -
Attendees meet face-to-face with resource
guests from major organizations to explore the issues leaders
encounter today. These discussions provide valuable insights
into the decision-making process; they also give attendees the
opportunity to apply their own knowledge and skills in
developing solutions to real problems.
Cultural
Connections -
Good thinking derives from a much
broader context than just management alone. In each day's
fourth seminar, we open the door to these broader influences
by introducing attendees to distinguished figures in the arts,
the humanities, philosophy, and other non-business fields.
Desired
candidates for the Young Executive Program are expected to be
in the early stages of their careers, recognized for their
leadership skills, and have already been identified as
potential senior management candidates. ICOD attempts to
assemble groups that reflect today's diverse workplace, with a
special emphasis on placing minorities and women in the
program.
III.
Leading Change Seminar
The
purpose of the Leading Change Seminar is to explore the
practical philosophies of those men and women who have
most successfully mastered the art of leadership. Since
mistaken assumptions about the role and task of leadership are
at the root of all misguided efforts to bring about change,
this seminar addresses the role of the leader - providing
vision, aligning and motivating staff, setting measurable
goals, fostering a culture conducive to change, and grooming
other leaders within the organization.
Dialogue-Based
Approach Using highly interactive discussions based on classic
and contemporary readings as well as corporate experiences,
the seminar explores ways to create willing and motivated
followers and leaders in organizations, exploring the
following kinds of questions:
·
Why is change resisted?
·
What is the role of the leader in overcoming resistance?
·
What are the dynamics of the relationship between the leaders
and followers?
·
How do leaders enlist followers in change?
·
How do leaders create other leaders?
·
What techniques/methods are appropriate and when?
·
How do leaders develop an organizational capacity for
alignment and adaptability?
·
Are there general principles for leading change?
·
How can success be measured?
At
the conclusion of the Leading Change seminar, participants
will not only have expanded their own thought processes, but
also have created a practical guidebook for leading change.
This guidebook about what leaders must do to bring about
change will be a useful tool for participants as well as for
sharing newly gained insights with others in their
organizations.
IV.
The Justice And Society Seminar
This
seminar brings together highly experienced people from various
sectors of society to discuss the meaning of justice in the
contemporary world. The participants come together to explore
basic issues that frame life in a civilized, democratic
society, and to consider how individuals and their governments
should approach fundamental questions of justice. Carefully
selected readings, including evocative works of literature as
well as contemporary law cases, provide the foundation for
vibrant discussions which stimulate the mind and enable
participants to revisit personal values and ideals.
