The Genesis Series The Youth Seminar is a youth leadership development program that incorporates components from the Phoenix Series as well as orientations on government, political economics, life skills, career planning, healthy behaviors, and entrepreneurship. Youth engage in lively discussion with their colleagues and adults on public policy and strategies for community change. Tours of campus, cultural, and industrial sites are also included. Seminar graduates are encouraged to become part of a cadre who identify other candidates and help form youth councils in their own communities and neighborhoods. The Family Life Leadership Seminar teaches natural leaders within poor communities the information and skills they need to (1) create an effective internal communication system to educate fellow residents about important issues such as health, the family, education, and employability, and (2) create and sustain a network of support for those who want to use their new knowledge to make changes in family life, education, and employment. The program is unique in that it builds strengths within the targeted communities in order to support long-term change.
